Ideal Growing Conditions

There is nothing quite like the natural characteristics of the southern coast of Puerto Rico. A perfect balance of sun, soil, climate and pure water make ideal growing conditions for mangos. It is these growing conditions combined with our expert team of agronomists that influence the taste that yields truly premium fruits.

Innovative Agronomic Techniques

Our innovative agronomic techniques include a carefully studied low tree-density planting scheme, pruning and careful management of the fields, and a sophisticated irrigation system that provides just the right amount of water and nutrients. We enjoy the benefits of efficient and quick post-harvesting operations, and exercise rigorous quality control of our products.

At Martex we are proud of our agronomic achievements when it comes to mango growing.  Our ability to control and manage our orchards flowering is one of the keys to our success.  Our team of agronomists has been able to devise practices that allow us to induce a good and uniform flowering resulting in the production of fruit not only on our normal season, but also during nontraditional seasons.  This leading edge agro-technology allows us to produce high quality fruits with some of the highest crop yields per acre in the world, and very low wastage levels. Our ability to manipulate the flowering of our orchards has allowed Martex to produce mango 12 months of the year.

Excellence in Fruit Quality

Nothing is more rewarding for a grower than harvest time, and a few things are more pleasing than the sweet, melting pulp of a ripe mango. At Martex special attention is put in determining the optimal time of harvest. By using a combination of fruit size, shape, cumulative growth days, internal color, and sugar content our technicians are able to determine the time when the fruit is ready for harvest without sacrificing its eating qualities.

Good Agricultural Practice

Martex Farms is fully committed to the quality of its products and safety of its customers. This is achieved by following the most rigorous good agricultural practice as well as social and environmental responsibility. Martex has been granted numerous recognitions and certifications from prestigious local and international entities such as Global Gap, Tesco Nurture and M&S Field to Fork.

Martex Farms became the first grower in Puerto Rico, and possibly the first mango farm in the world, to pass EurepGAP (now Global Gap), a prestigious European good agricultural practices certification. The protocol seeks to provide a framework for independent verification of social, environmental and food safety standards for the production of fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.
